Your Lawn Has Mushrooms
Mushrooms can be an annoyance on a lawn, but do not harm the grass and contribute to the breakdown of thatch and other organic matter. Mushroom spores are everywhere and after a prolonged rain or excessive watering they often develop into mushrooms. Controlling them is difficult and unpredictable. Fungicides are not effective and therefore cultural control methods must be used.
Our Recommendations:
1. Sweep or rake them off the lawn
2. Remove any buried material such as logs or stumps
3. Ensure a balanced soil PH and add lime if required
4. Aerate annually to control thatch
5. Water infrequently and deeply, allowing the top 1’’ of soil to dry between watering
6. Improve air flow by pruning the base of hedges and trees
7. Feed the lawn a regular balanced diet of nutrients
These recommendations may help reduce mushroom problems, but complete control cannot be guaranteed.
